Overview:

Automate complex workflows

InEventScript allows you to automate complex or repetitive processes in Adobe® InDesign® or Adobe® InCopy® by assigning scripts to the everyday actions users take in InDesign®. Anything you can script can be associated to user actions in InDesign®. InEventScript allows you to streamline your workflow with ease.

Attach to nearly any action

Click here to see!A script can be attached to almost every user action and can be scheduled to execute just prior to or directly after the action. This flexibility lets you hook-in just when it makes the most sense for your task. In addition to the standard InDesign® actions, scripts can also be attached to several custom actions to allow automation in response to events like application launch or quit.

Features:

Easily attach scripts to actions

InEventScript provides a simple and intuitive palette to control script to event associations. You can quickly find the action you are interested in and associate a script to it by browsing to the script file on disk. Assigned scripts can be scheduled to occur before and after the action directly in the palette.

Put your workflow on auto-pilot

Execute scripts that automatically track the billable hours for each document that is open and closed. Validate the use of fonts, colors and other document resources against requirements each time a document is saved. Automatically export document assets such as stories, tagged content or previews at each save. Use attachability of scripts to ensure important steps in your workflow are never overlooked.

Suppress UI actions

Scripts that are scheduled to execute before an action can optionally choose to supress that action. Managers of controlled workflow installations can use this feature to turn off unecessary or problematic features in their environment. The suppression can be dependent on any criteria you can construct in your scripts.

Add new features to InDesign®

Combining InEventScript with clever scripting allows you to extend InDesign® by effectively adding new features. For instance, it is trivial to attach a script before the Print action so that your document is checked for overset text prior to printing. If overset text is found, the script can generate a warning and allow you to cancel the print!

Easy to install and maintain for large groups

Your script to event attachments are saved in a simple XML file. This file can be edited with any text or XML editor and installed on a variety of machines using your preferred automated installation method. You can easily configure your scripts and events on one machine and install them with the appropriate scripts on the client machines in your lab. The location of your scripts are stored relative to the application, so there is no need to worry about fixing the locations for each client.

It is also possible to install InEventScript without the palette UI. This allows you to configure client machines to have predetermined attachments, but prevent users for errantly changing your configuration.

Supports all InDesign® scripting languages

InEventScript integrates seamlessly with all InDesign© supported scripting languages. Attach any AppleScript or Visual Basic script to a user action. You can even use cross-platform JavaScripts.

InDesign Magazine
"There's no doubt that power users and administrators familiar with the possibilities of scripting will find InEventScript very beneficial. Despite some flaws, it adds a powerful feature which InDesign alone can't offer." - InDesign Magazine

A note about InDesign and InCopy CS3 compatibility

Adobe has added the ability to attach scripts to menu items and actions directly in the CS3 update to InDesign. This new development has prompted us to discontinue future updates to InEventScript for compatibility with new versions of InDesign or InCopy. We anticipate that existing users upgrading to CS3 or later versions will be able to migrate their current automation to the newly provided built-in support for attaching scripts.
